Composition and release [edit]

Before the worldwide release in 2007, September had originally recorded the vocal for her studio anthology In Orbit (2005). Even so, in many compilations September has released, the song has appeared on her compilations including September, Dancing in Orbit, Golden and Cry for You - The Album. According to September, she explained the reason why she wanted to release it worldwide, past saying "The vocal was and then strong by itself. And I've been at that place and information technology feels similar the fans are starved of trip the light fantastic toe music. But at present dance music is coming back once more, and the world is getting smaller and smaller because of the net – that now sometimes you don't even accept to do much promotion, although plain it is all the same very important. Only I think that a hit vocal volition always find a way."[4]

In an interview with Digital Spy, they asked about the background of the song, when she replied:[4]

"It'south near when you lot're washed with human relationship. A lot of people write to me and say 'It's really emotional and I feel and then much for the song because my boyfriend la la la', which is really dainty for me, even though I didn't write the lyrics. I've had a lot of experiences like that then that's what gives me the nerve to sing information technology."

The song features a dance-pop,[5] Europop[6] [seven] and house[eight] sound and has been compared to Bronski Beat'due south "Smalltown Boy" and its sampled counterpart, "Tell Me Why" by Supermode, although possible similarities have been alleged unintended.[9]

Ross Hoffman, also from AllMusic, had highlighted the vocal as an anthology standout, and said "'Weep [for You]' is the obvious standout, managing to conjure both sophistication and a surprising degree of emotion from its adequately pedestrian frothy electro-pop arrangement and polished but powerful vocal turn."[14] However, he as well added "'Cry for You' is a strong enough rail (though fairly faceless too, in its way) [...]."
